Dr. Parker, austin veterinarianLeanne Parker - DVM, Owner

As the owner, president and head veterinarian of AM/PM Hospital in Austin, Dr. Leanne Parker guides our entire staff in offering extraordinary care to you and your pets. She has been practicing veterinary medicine since earning her degree from Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. She graduated from veterinary school with the honor of magna cum laude.

Beginning her professional career on the Texas Gulf Coast in 1994, Dr. Parker moved to Austin in 1996 and quickly became the lead associate at AM/PM Animal Hospital. She then purchased the practice in July 2002 and has been expanding it ever since with her husband, Owen, who works as the hospital's Director of Operations.

As a child, Dr. Parker learned that she wanted to work with animals. "My family's dachshund had several serious illnesses when I was a child. I remember feeling so powerless and wanting to be able to help him. When he would come home from the vet, he was like new again and I thought, 'what a great profession!' What could be better than caring for pets all day and helping them get healthy? It seemed like an amazing job to me and it is," she said.

Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Parker attended Texas A&M University where she earned her bachelor's degree summa cum laude in biomedical science in 1990. While there, Dr. Parker received the Gathright Award for two consecutive years for possessing the highest grade point average in her major.

For her first job, Dr. Parker began working in the kennel of a local veterinary hospital where one of the technicians took her under her wing. "She helped me learn how to run tests, prepare for surgery, and so much else. It was so interesting and she made everything fun to learn," she said.

Dr. Parker is a member of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Her areas of professional interest include internal medicine and dermatology. She supplies donations to Support Austin Pets Alive and also volunteers her time with Meals on Wheels Program and P.A.L.S. (Pets Assisting the Lives of Seniors).

Dr. Parker and her husband, Owen, share their home with their dog, Darby, and their cat, Bailey. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and gardening.

Austin, TX veterinarian, Dr. SmithErin Smith - DVM

Dr. Erin Smith grew up in McKinney, Texas and attended the University of North Texas where she received a bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology. Having always had a passion for medicine and science, her love of animals made the veterinary field a natural professional choice. "Being a veterinarian allows me to promote excellent health for furry family members and guide owners to educated decisions through comprehensive communication," she said.

After earning her undergraduate degree, Dr. Smith went on to attend veterinary school at Auburn University where she graduated with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2002 (magna cum laude and with Dean's list recognition). She then continued her veterinary education by performing an internship in emergency medicine at the Veterinary Specialists of South Florida.

Having grown up in suburban Texas with parents who allowed all breeds of pets, Dr. Smith became fond of animals at an early age. "My mom grew up on a dairy farm and my dad was never allowed to have pets when he was young so, while growing up, we had turtles, snakes, rabbits, guinea pigs, dogs, cats, fish, rats and pretty much whatever I wanted," she said. "My ball python contracted pneumonia once and my parents helped me fashion an oxygen/nebulization tent and give him injectable antibiotics."

Dr. Smith also worked at a rural veterinary practice during her undergraduate studies and she attributes her sense of humility and practicality from her days spent under the tutelage of the rural veterinarian.

Dr. Smith's professional interests include surgery, emergency medicine and ophthalmology. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the Texas Veterinary Medical Association and the Capital Area Veterinary Medical Association.

When she's not at the hospital, Dr. Smith can be found gardening or cooking. She also enjoys spending time with her dog, Harriet June, and her cat, Vegas.

She's been working at AM/PM Animal Hospital since July of 2006. Dr. Renner earned her bachelor's degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M University and, while there, made the Dean's list and was the recipient of the four year Ella McFadden Charitable Trust Scholarship. Austin veterinarian, Dr. MillingtonRyan Millington - DVM

Growing up in both rural and urban communities in Texas, Dr. Ryan Millington developed a true empathy for pet owners and the various situations they can encounter. "I believe that growing up in both settings afforded me unusual but helpful insight into all situations that clients may experience," he said. Dr. Millington attended the University of Texas at Austin for his undergraduate studies and earned his bachelor's degree in microbiology in 2003. He then went on to attend St. George's University in Grenada, West Indies and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2007.

Despite his fondness for animals, Dr. Millington enjoys the scientific and educational aspects of his job more than anything else. "I very much enjoy the scientific problem-solving aspect of each individual medical case," he said. "I also truly enjoy the teaching and instructional part of my job. I like educating both my staff and clients on pet care and medicine. And of course I like to help foster the bond between pets and their owners."
